Lucien Delarue was born on November 10, 1927 in Nantes, France. He was the pupil of Maitre Yves Brayer in the studios of Grande Chaumiere, Paris and took part in the exhibitions where he was crowned with a first prize and the Vermeil-Medaille. Additionally, he was awarded a Gold Medal at the Salon of Vincennes and a Bronze Medal at the most important exhibition of Paris: the “Arts-Sciences-Lettres.” Delarue paintings were shown at the Museum of Ile de France in the chateau of Sceaux. Additional exhibitions were held in New York and San Francisco. Furthermore, the artist continued on to receive the Gold Medal of the Salon of Clichy before the municipalities of Paris and Chichy, France purchased his paintings. Lucien Delarue paintings are collected in international circles.

The painting technique employed by the artist is akin to the glazing-layering technique first made famous by American artist Maxfield Parrish in the early 20th century. While Mr. Parrish utilized a honeybee-based wax as a glazing agent, Mr. Delarue uses more contemporary materials to achieve a layering effect. Rather than utilizing illuminescent colors, as did Mr. Parrish, Delarue employs a more subtle color palette resulting in a more gradual separation of depth in his wonderful, primarily Parisian, cityscapes.

Due to health conditions Lucien Delarue is no longer painting.
